Durring class, we read about a girl who was not proud to be a Chinese American, and I just cannot understand that. How can someone turn away from a part of who they are? She was given the ability to fully immerse herself in a part of her culture that could be lost if she and others of her ethnicity in America are not careful.
Guam is a close example to its people losing their culture. How many of us can speak Chamorro fluently? How many of us can make hagunsuni or chalikilas, but then how many of us enjoy the island food, and its customs?
One's culture should be respected and accepted with pride.
Some people are proud of who they are and some people are ashamed. There's many reasons and everyone is different.
