Drugs-Don't panic its organic

Today in class we learned about the writting process. There are three steps in the writting process. In class we talked about what those three steps are. After getting a better understanding of how to use the writting process worksheet, we learned how to freewrite. Freewriting is basically just writting whatever comes to your head. After we talked about how to freewrite, we had to choose one of the topics and freewrite. My topic was Drugs. I wrote about what ever came to my head from why people do it, and what effects it could do to your body.

Rai, you're the man.

Today I walked into class with literally 10 seconds left to spare. I sat at the same seat I have sat on for the past 3 classes. Dr. Rivera started us off with some notes, then a little bit of reading. Great reading everybody =). Dr. Rivera then assigned us to do the excercise, which was to freewrite about any topic given. I wrote about disciplining children because I am an evil person. I'm just joking. Still, do not make me mad, or I will cry. I didn't write that much because I am terrible at writing. After the time limit was over, Dr. Rivera called upon one of the funniest persons I have ever met, Rai "The King" Rios, to read what he has written down. The way he read his paper, with such humor and feeling, made my day. Thanks, bro. I really enjoyed the whole story. Keep up the funny.

Rai, will you be my friend?

[]Yes []No

Freewriting, to write or not to write........

In class today, we were learning about freewiting and what it means. Freewriting means to write, well its pretty self-explanatory, to write freely and to keep on writing about a certain topic and basically write ideas that deals with the topic. And basically it's a draft too. So it doesn't have to be all perfect as you were writing a real assignment, like today a funny student named Rai was presenting his draft and he made the whole class laugh, including Dr. Rivera. I think today was one of those funny days in class. Rai you are super funny dude. ^.^

SSHS Uniform?

I walked in to class today wearing my school uniform. Why? Because I am a senior in high school participating in the dual enrollment plan and I had just gotten off school. I thought I was going to be so late today, but the traffic out was not so bad. Today in class we were free writing about a topic we chose form the book. I chose Why A College Education is Important. thankfully, I did not have to read mine. I really enjoyed listening to Rai's story. He never fails to crack me up.

Sept. 01 Wednesday

Today's activity was on freewriting. In the writing process, we first need to brainstorm, hence, the freewriting. This activity gives us an idea of what we will be writing in our essays. It helps to come up with the ideas and to organize them later into an outline.
As a class activity, we were required to freewrite on a subject given to us in our textbook. We were to choose a topic and freewrite. Later on in the class, a few of us presented our freewrite worksheet. Some of us freewrote on the importance of college, others on drugs, and one amusingly on his bad day becoming good. His essay was very amusing, however, I highly doubt the possibility of what he said was on his paper. It was, nonetheless, amusing.
I would like to take this time to tell Krysta thank you for letting use your book. :D

I wrote about heroes.

Today we did a lesson that included freewritting. We were told to pick a topic, and then write about it. My topic was about heroes. To me, they are the people in our everyday lives that make us happier. They are the people we can depend on, and the ones that are there when we need them. They can be our mother, father, sister, brother, friend, teacher, neighbor, and anyone else in our daily lives that just helps to brighten up our day. A hero doesn't have to be some guy in a cape, but someone who is willing to listen, lend a hand, give a smile, and just be there for us. So, who is your hero?

Freewriting

I'm not in the mood to sit, write or go over anything important. We went over things in the book and we did an exercise in which we got to free write. We had like 10 minutes and that gave me enough time to write about a page long of my thoughts about Drug Use. After I got everything down on paper we had the chance to share. Rai went first and as usual, he was being himself which was funny. Just FYI, I'm not making fun of your horrible day. The next two talked about college and then the last one to share talked about Drug Use.
I enjoy free writing. It's interesting to hear what other people have to say and if they have the same or different opinion as you. I do agree with Steven though, drug use is ridiculous. A common thing I always hear is you could either be "Drug Free" or "Get Free Drugs". ;). I think I'm done with my blog. I'm ready to go to my last class of the day now!

Free writting

Today we did free writting and Rai's draft was funny beacuse in the beginning he was reading his paper and as time passed he just started talking. I guess you could call it a fill in. Hilarioius, well done Rai. Its funny how the title is "Free writting" when they give us subjects to choose from. It's free writting with limits. (Inserted smilely face). Its like telling you its an all you can eat buffet but you can only eat the salad.
Today feels kind of lazy for me because I went to sleep late last night and I had to wake up early this morning for my morning class so I'm really tired today. It rained all day today which made it feel even more lazy for me. Well we've been meeting in the computer lab for our past three classes and it's pretty good because we get to do more, rather than staying in a regular classroom with nothing but paper and pencil. Class is more interesting with a computer in front of you. We had to do free writing today and it kind of made my hand hurt because I just kept writing nonstop, putting whatever came to my mind. I'm still tired.

09/01/2010

The computer lab isn't really hot like it is, and the rain just keeps coming down outside. Maybe that's why it's not as hot as it was the past sessions held in here. Well, in class we just went over the Writing Process Worksheet, and we went over a few paragraphs to read in the book. We talked about the process of free writing. After that passage, we did an exercise where we had to free write about a topic. We had about seven topics to choose from. We were given ten minutes to write and after we wrote, some of us shared what we had. That was pretty much what class was like today.

090110

In class, it was pretty fun. Well, first of all we went over the Writing Process again. However, we did a little bit of freewriting and some of us shared it with the class. Rai's presentation was hilarious! I enjoyed it. It was so detailed and whatnot. Anthony's own was pretty good too, he's off to a good start and so was gerard and stephen's own as well. Considering the weather, I would say today was a good day! Suprisingly, Dolores and Andrea weren't in their jolly mood. It's okay, there's always next week.

Rainy Day again

Today was a very rainy, cold day. Anyways for class, we went over the Writing Process again, but for today we only focused on Stage one. Dr. Rivera asked who had their rough drafts for our "All About Me" essay but I think only two of us had it. We talked about free writing. Then after that we had to do Exercise 1 and choose a topic to free write about. For 10 mins we were doing that. After Dr. Rivera asked for volunteers to share. Rai goes up to share first. He was so funny and made the whole class laugh, but he always does that. (: When we were done with that, Dr. Rivera told us to start blogging and that was about it for class.
Every child looks up to a certain someone in their life whether it'd be a parent, a sibling, an athlete, or a celebrity. This is the first sentence from the first exercise we did for freewriting. Today was a fun class. Not only did we learn new things such as the three stages of the writing process but along we were able to listen to a few of our classmates exercises. Listening to their work made me have a little knowledge of how their final copy is going to look like and with that we have all completed part of the first stage of the writing process which is exploring. Overall, today was a good class day despite the fact that the rain made me a little lazy.
A role model or hero can influence you to do great things and help you to be a better person. I chose this topic to write about for our class exercise. It was nice to hear topics my classmates chose to write about. Rai's story about a good or bad day in school was hilarious. I really tried not to burst out in laughter because I think I have a really weird laugh. We learned about the three stages of the writing process, so the exercise that we did dealt with the first stage which was freewrting. I thought we had another produtive class and it was fun.
Today was a real eye opener.During class today my friend, Rai Rios, presented his freewriting topic. In his writing he described his day and how it went from a bad day to a good day. This seemed to fascinate me. I was intrigued by the fact that it made my day memorable. Rai until now had a bad day but what interested me the most was that his bad day helped mine to become more bearable.I enjoyed Rai's essay and I enjoy having him in my class. On cloudy rainy days, Rai will be there, more vibrant than the shining sun swooping down and brightening up even the most darkest days.

Spongecake!

Today was a great day. Although I wrote a paper saying otherwise, all in all it was a great day. We used the computers again and we did some free writing. I love anything with the word free in it. I sat next to my good friend Anthony. He is a great person with a great personality. Even though he seems tough and mean, he is actually a sweet down to earth guy. Just him being in this class makes this class that much better. He may wear the same shorts everyday, but if you were him, you would probably do the same thing. As you are contnuing to read this you may ask yourself what's with the title Rai? Well let me tell you, the title has nothing to do with what I'm writing here. It is basically just an eye catcher.

God is Love.

Rain so hard.

Today is a very bad day for me, I woke up like 5 A.M so I can report to work on time. Instead of going to work on time I stayed i my car more than 20 minutes because the parking is too far away from my work so I ended up late. Today I also have to report to Carbullido Elementary School to do my observation for my ED215 class and after there I have to come to class. Thank God we have class on line today it's very cold in the classrooms, but anyways I missed Dr. Rivera already.

She thought she wanted it, but she was WONG!

Wong is a Chinese-American girl, who wants to be just an American girl. She attends public school, but after, attends Chinese school. She has to write, read and speak Chinese. She dislikes many things about her culture. The food, the smell, the way they talk. She just wanted to be "normal". Wong's brother influenced her more because he was more into Americanization than she was. Wong was later permitted to stop going to Chinese school. She was happy about it. On the other hand, Wong was sad because the Chinese school was already part of her life.

Wong's Story

In class we read about a girl named Wong. She was a Chinese girl who was not satisfied with her culture. She wanted to be an "All-American Girl.", because she had books that didn't even deal with her culture, she had American novels to read and that's what interested her. Also another reason why she wanted to be an "All-American Girl", is she was fascinated by the common language know as English, and she tried to learn it in school and she was bad at it, at first. And her brother also inspired Wong the most because Wong's brother was more fanatical about speaking English. So in the end, Wong was relieved that she didn't need to stay in Chinese school. So Wong was finally an "All-American Girl", but at the end she felt sad that that she was one, because she felt like she lost part of her culture.

Rainy Day

It's about 7:41 in the morning and i'm waiting for class to start. Gosh this rain is such a drag isn't it? I was driving over to school and it was raining really hard down south. Well I hope that later on it will cool down and we will have alittle sun through out the day. I hate the rain it makes my feet wet and that is something I really hate. My hair get's wet and then, my curls start to come out and I look so weird. See you later have a nice rainy day!
Today's class was just like any other class day. We were very productive. We learned about the kinds of supports for Text-Based Writing. When I wrote essays in high school, we were required to do MLA format and I never knew what it stood for, Modern Language Association. We did the exercises in the book about a story of the All-American Girl. We shared our thoughts and it was nice to hear my classmates responses to the questions given since we all have different views.

Monday, August 30, 2010

Todays class was just like any other class. Walk in, sat at the same seat as last week, logged on to my blog and we went over some notes and stories. The basic stuff. 4 o'clock is like the worst time to have class because everyone is surely tired. I was definitely about to fall asleep but Christian, who decided to sit next to me, apparently couldn't help but bother me, but it's ok, he kept me awake and every now and then pay attention to the lecture.

We read two stories. I can't exactly recall the name but I know that it was something like Air Guitar and another story dealing with a chinese girl embarrassed about her culture and trying to hide it. After that, we did some activities and we were out the door.

4th or 5th day of class

I was late to class today.  As i was trying to sign the attendance sheet my pencil didn't work.  Lucky for me I had a nice enough classmate to let me borrow her pen.  After signing in my name, Dr.Rivera said that i will have points deducted. However, i think that all the students who were late shouldn't get points deducted, because Dr. Rivera is very nice. I also learned how to cite things in the MLA format.  After learning all of this, i read about a chinese girl who lived an american life. She was sad that she lost her heritage. I also read about african americans who played the air guitar! thats my 4th or 5th day of en100!

August 30

Today we were in the computer lab today and I got to class just on time today i was almost late lucky because Dr. Rivera was deducting points off. Anyways today we were reading about explanations, referances, quotations, and citations today in class which was kind of interesting. I also learned what MLA stands for which is Modern Language Association. Then we read about this girl who was talking about her life 10 years ago. The story mainly talks about how she was a chinese girl but she just wanted to be an All - American Girl. After going over th story we did questions about then we either had to write a summary or a two- part response. Then we were able to go home .

3rd day of class

On the 3rd day of class we went into the computer lab which was very interesting. I finally figured out that i was doing my blogging the wrong way which is okay I figured it out already. Anyways we started to discuss about our homework which was about underlining, annotations, and outlines. Then we went over the handout which she passed out to us which was the Writing Process Worksheet. After discussing the worksheet we were able to go home.

First day of class August 18

Today in class we started introducing ourselves to one another. Then we started discussing our syllabus and we learned what to expect from that class. Then we went over our calendar of events for this semester. During this time we learned about our moodle online sessions. Lastly after discussing all of these topics we did an essay to see if we can move up to EN110.

class cut short August 25

Today we had a short meeting together in our english class. At first we started to discuss chapter 1 in our textbooks, which in my opinion was a very interesting chapter. Then we were told what our homework assignment was which is exercise 1 in chapter 1. All in all it was a good day and we got along just fine.

08/30/10

Today for class we were in the Computer Lab again. Dr. Rivera took off points for people who were coming in late. So now, even though I was super early for class today I have to make sure I always come in on time. Anyways in class we talked about Text-Base Writing. I learned what MLA stands for. It means Modern Language Association. So we talked about explanations, references, quotations, and citations. Then we read a story about this Chinese girl named Wong. She doesn't really like her culture and really wants to be an American. After reading that we answered questions and had to write a summary or reaction to it. After that class was over!
Today was alright. We had some classes discussions and excercises we had to do. We read about this girl named Wong, who isn't proud to be Chinese. She would be better off as an American. In my opinion, she needs to embrace her culture. It is a part of who she is, whether she likes it or not. Anyways, thanks again Andrea for bringing me my chocolate! It was delicious. (: Also, I'm going to take your pretty pencil from Japan! Oh and today, Dolores was wearing her yellow kicks. They were cute, she looked like a rainbow with her colorful bag! Lastly, Maria came to school today with a sprained ankle. I told her not to play basketball on the weekend, but she never listens to me. However, I did offer to carry her up the stairs, because I felt bad for my bestfriend, but she was too embarrassed to be seen like that. So, oh well. Don't say I never offered (;
Today was just a typical school day. Andrea, Maria, and I got to class quite early. Class was once again fun because I couldn't stop laughing with Andrea and Monica. It's odd because sometimes we just laugh over the randomest thing. Despite the laughter, we learned the different types of support for text-based writing such as explanations, references, quotations, and citations. I learned that explantions are expressed through patterns, references points readers directly towards the original ideas on the sources, quotations are words credited from certain sources, and a citation known as MLA which stands for Modern Language Assiciation. I would have to say that today's class was productive because we did a lot of exercises and most of us participated in reading and sharing our thoughts.

August 30

Today wasn't all that bad. We did exercises and discussions together. I made a new friend. The story we read about Wong was pretty sad because she's running away from her roots. She should embrace her culture instead of running away from it.
Today, was a wonderful day except for the fact that I came in late to class. The reason why it was so wonderful, was because I got to hang out with my most best friend in world: Krysta. In class today, me and my best friend talked about the stories that went on in class. For example, "The Struggle to Be an All-American Teenager", my partner gave me a hard time with all the exercises, especially Exercise 3.
Today I finally spoke in our class I always feel ashamed but today I am so glad of my self. As usual this class is always fun Dr.Rivera is one of a kind that everyone will love to be in her class. One thing is that I am the oldest in this class all my classmates are fresh out of high school and that makes me feel so old. I am looking forward to be the oldest here and that means I will need alot of helps from this group.

Chineseasy

Today we read about Wong and her dire need to adopt a new culture. Being Chinese myself, I do not know why she wanted to do such a thing. My Chinese family is so unique and the culture just so exciting. I even get excited when my grandfather sends my family and I tea! Today just reminded me to take pride in my culture and to be happy with what you have and who you are.

Computer Lab

Today was our first day in the computer lab, well when I sat down I almost flipped because, the chair was too flimsy. We worked on our assignment from the day before and we just talked about moodle and blogging. I don't know why I can't see my blogs though and no one comment on mine so I'm not too sure anyone can see it. So i guess next time we meet I have to ask Doc.Rivera if she can view my blogs.

Culture

Durring class, we read about a girl who was not proud to be a Chinese American, and I just cannot understand that. How can someone turn away from a part of who they are? She was given the ability to fully immerse herself in a part of her culture that could be lost if she and others of her ethnicity in America are not careful.
Guam is a close example to its people losing their culture. How many of us can speak Chamorro fluently? How many of us can make hagunsuni or chalikilas, but then how many of us enjoy the island food, and its customs?
One's culture should be respected and accepted with pride.

Life as an English100 Gangsta

Today in class we went over the MLA format. Did you know that MLA stands for Modern Language Association? Well if you didn't, now you do. I also want to point out that Davilynn was on facebook during class and I told her that was a bad idea. She said you are right Rai, I am logging off right now. So to avoid deductions off her grade she did the right thing. I'm glad she took the high road on this one, because taking the low road would make you a low person. So good job Davilynn and have a safe trip. Plus Anthony Quitugua has a scar on his head. I hope he is ok and recovering well.

I'm out of pumpkin

Oh My gosh! I need to make turnover for my orders and i'm out of pumpkin. Gosh, hopefully some store will have. Well my mom has a business that I help her with you may know her because she was voted Guam's Best Empanada. So for money and to help her out i make turnover and buchi buchi. So today i ran out of pumpkin and that set me back a day because that is my main order. Hopefully one day in class I will bring some in to share.

EN-100 Monday, August 30

Today, in English class, I learned how to support my text- based writings. We read a few essays to understand today's lesson. In this lesson, you learn how to properly cite other literary works when referring to them in your writings, we learned different ways to support our writing, and we also learned the importance of knowing our culture.
It was very interesting. After today's lesson, I believe that my writing skills will improve. As a writer, I found today's lesson fun and informative.

Today in the computer lab

Today in our EN 100 class, we are in the computer lab. We read a few short essays in the book and discussed them in class. We also did a few activities on the essays like, responses and reactions to the essays. I had to give my book to some guy named Anthony Quitigua because he came to class late and unprepared. Rai was on facebook and Mrs. Rivera saw him so she got mad at us and told us to go on facebook on our own time. Oh how i love my EN 100 class!

At the Computer Lab

Oh my! I went in to class without a book! I feel bad about myself because I was not able to purchase my English book. I am still waiting for my loan to come, to purchase my books, and other useful school materials. Good thing, I sat near two classmates who has their books with them, and I was able to participate on the class reading and assignments. I really need to get a book right now. Hopefully by tomorrow, so I would never be left behind again.

Today's class is quite interesting because, it is not like any other English class that sounded boring. Everyone is happy, and one student started joking around, that made us laugh. Funny!

When I get home, I would start on my "All About Me" Essay, so I won't have to worry about it the next day. I used to procrastinate during my high school days, but I think not on my college days. This is all for now!

8/30/2010

Today in class we went over the MLA format. We went over other things in class such as plagiarism, citations, documentations and other things. Then we read 3 essays and the one we really focused on was the story of Wong. She was this Chinese girl who adapted to the American life and she was sad in the end because she lost her culture. Then we shared our work and we discussed briefly on the All About Me Essay. And that was today.
Today is a very interesting day in En 100 just like every day.I enjoy listening to my classmates read and I enjoy taking notes.Class is so fun I dont even want to go home.I hope class ends really late today just so I can spend more time with all the beautiful people in my class.=D

Worries when I was Away

I really missed the days of my English classes for a very important matter. I just had the chance of blogging now because, I did not get the chance to go online at the Philippines. Now, I'm back and looking forward on my future classes. I hope i could catch up and pass this class.

I am very much worried about my grades on the attendance. If only I can do make-ups on this class. But because I have such an optimistic mind, I know I will pass this course. I know I will make it.

So long to here until my next blog:D

Saturday, August 28, 2010

My mind was opened and surprised about our last class meeting, I really don't expect the class to be that fun and enjoyable. Dr. Rivera never changed she was always the same with her beautiful smiles and generous laughs, I know that whatever that I could not understand she'll be there along the way to help me.

Blog Entry: Dos

Class was interesting and fun because we were able to use the computers today. Dr. Rivera gave us some time to comment on each others' blog posts. I am quite happy on the number of comments I have received. I know that this is not a contest, but all I'm saying is if it was, I think I might be in top 3. Class was also funny because Davilynn could not open the door to get out of class. Although it was amusing, I felt bad for her because that door is very challenging to open.

Class in the computer lab

Yesterday, class was pretty interesting. We went on our class blog and commented on eachothers posts. We also went over the writing process worksheet and our homework from last class. Then Dr. Rivera made us sign up for our online class accounts and she went step by step with us because it was pretty confusing. Dr. Rivera was really patient with us, I mean considering the fact that Rai and I had no idea what to do and we kept bothering her. I think I'm going to love my EN 100 class.
Technology has vastly improved over the years. Now, we are able to have hundreds of songs in a compact player. We are able to look at a screen with a multitudinous amount of color instead of green letters on a black background. Information can come as quickly as we can type, and classes can be done over the internet. Technology has changed, and so has the way classes are run- to a certain extent.

Third day of school

Unfortunately, I couldn't follow along with the class. I wasn't able to purchase my book because of financial difficulties. Not only that, but even when I tried to sign into my blogger account, I couldn't because I was still signed in at my house. And when I thought things couldn't get any worse I couldn't sign into my moodle account either. Now I feel so left behind, because I'm missing homework, and I missed out on the class lesson. There are just too many books to purchase. I really wish I had a money tree.

The Computer Lab

Today's class was quite thrilling. At first, I forgot that we were meeting in the computer lab and was wondering why the classroom seemed to be empty but good thing one of our classmates informed me that we were meeting upstairs. As I got upstairs, I saw a few classmates fixing up their assignments and I started to panic because they all re-wrote it or xeroxed copied it while I simply wrote in my book. I was debating on whether to write it out or just leave it alone, but good thing Dr. Rivera informed us that she encourages us to write in our books. Today was very productive because we were all able to create accounts on Moodle, learn the three steps in the writing process, and commented on each other's posts.

Class session in the computer lab

Well, first of all it is actually pretty exciting once we start our classes online. I have to admit, I was a little confused with it first but now I understand. We were given a worsheet and we talked about the homework. Today's class was super funny, thanks to Andrea and Dolores. I don't know what is up with them but they kept laughing so, I did the same. We all tried to hide it, and I think it was a success. Andrea owes me chocolate and dolores, gummy bears! I hope I get to learn more about my other classmates, speaking of which , I didn't know we were supposed to comment each others post. It's a good thing Dr. Rivera made us do that in class! Thank goodness.

Rain

Today was just another normal day at school. I went to my first two morning classes and had to wait a good 5 hours until my last class. After my second class was over I decided to go home and sleep for a while. As I am entering Sinajana, a sudden rainstorm hit. I was hitting big puddles left and right, slightly losing control of my truck. On the Piti Strip 3 ambulances passed by making me think the worst. In Sumay, the water was so high that SUVs looked rather low. Then what happens right when i get home, the rain stops. On my way back to school I decided to take the back road, which turned out to be much safer.

first class in the computer lab

Today's class was very productive. I am glad that we had a chance to use the computers so that we can create an account for our online class and learn how to use it because it was kind of confusing. I think I would have been lost if I was to do it at home. Also, I did not know that we were supposed to comment on others blogs so Dr. Rivera gave us some time to do that. I don't really talk to everyone in the class so it is nice to just comment on anyone's blog and I am sorry to say that I still don't know everyone's names. Hopefully I will get to know all my classmates real soon.

Rapping

This morning I came to school and I went in the cafeteria. I met up with an old colleague of mine. He was waiting for time to pass by, so I sat and caught up with him. A little later, he talked to me about rap. Initially, I always thought rap to be something people do with no prime significance. I did not think it was worth looking into. After just hanging with him, he started "busting a ryhme" as they say. His raps were very interesting. I not only enjoyed the rhythm, but I connected with his lyrics. I understood what he meant and how he felt. His raps were all about his experiences and facts of life. I told him that he changed my perspective of rap. Then, he told me that in his perspective, rap is more than words, its "ghetto poetry." I completely agree with him. Everyone has a form of self- expression. "Ghetto poetry" is his expression. I really admire my colleague after everything he has been through. To find a way to remain standing on his feet after many downs is very inspirational.

Student Financial Aid

Time and time again, we students are told to never procrastinate. The effects of procrastination can be dire. Unfortunately, I somewhat procrastinated on my FAFSA. I fear that my parents pin may not be in on time for the due date. I am hoping the office will allow me an extension for the payment. I am merely lacking one minor detail. As of right now, I am hoping and praying for the best.

First day in the computer lab

I got to school at around 3:40 and was wondering why no one was in class. I read the sheet saying where class was and saw that it said computer lab. So i went to the computer lab in the MARC building. Again I saw none of my classmates there. I decided to go to my car and sit there until I saw a classmate of mine so i could follow them and not be lost alone>.<
Finally, I saw my friend Dom. He was kind enough to tell me that it was in the EC Computer Lab. I felt really dumb for reading over the words ec on the class schedule. I guess I was just too excited to show off my new laptop :D

First Class Session in the Computer Lab

Today was the first time we were in the computer lab for class. It was actually pretty cool using the computers. Although, it was quite hot in the class. Where was the air conditioning? Anyways we started class off by going over the Writing Process Worksheet. We talked about the the 3 stages of writing and Dr. Rivera explained it further to us. When that discussion was done, Dr. Rivera told us that we can go ahead and comment on people's post because she notices that comments were all at zero. After that we went over our homework, Exercise 1. Before class ended, Dr. Rivera wanted to make sure that we were all registered for our moodle online class. When we were finished with that, we were allowed to leave.

When I walked into class on Monday i was surprised to see a new face to the class.  Dr. Rivera brought her son to class with her.  We learn basic things about writting like underlining, annotating, and outlining.  Our class time was shortened because Dr. Rivera had to go home since her son was have a little too much fun in class.  He wasn't writting in his square in the board, and not to mention he wrote on the chalkboard with a marker!

Today, I walked in to class and I was suprised that I was the only student in class.  Dr. Rivera reminded me that in the calender it says that we are suppose to meet somewhere else. after meeting up with the rest of my class we went over the writting process worksheet.  the writing process worksheet basically helps us gather all our thoughts to organize when we are going to write a paper or essay. i need to stop blogging and go over the homework now. bye classmates!
Class monday was very fun and exciting.Unfortunately i went to class late. Thankfully Dr.Rivera is such an understanding teacher. She allowed me into class without deducting any points. Dr.Rivera is such an outstanding teacher. I will try my hardest not to be late ever again.

Today I walked into class and was very suprised. When I entered the class there was only two people present. I was also pretty happy because I thought that this time I was actually early. It turns out that class was going to be held in another room. Now I am sitting down writing to all my best friends blogging.

Visitors

It is interesting to see how much of a difference one person can make. Some examples of these types of people are Martin Luther King Jr., Obama, Elvis, and Jesus Christ. Another example is a little boy who entered an EN100 class. He caused a class that was supposed to last over an hour, to last less than thirty minutes. So, anyone can make a difference- a little boy made a difference.
I was at the fieldhouse yesterday trying my best to get in line at the finacial aid office and the line there was so long. And today I don't think I would be able to fit in again, but I really have to try my best to see one of the counselor there. Anyway I really like this class especially these beautiful teacher that really happy everytime I sees her. The last class was fun that we had to leave early and every single person in the class were very happy.

My first day of class

My first day of class was hectic, because for the whole day I've been doing rescheduling my schedule. It all happened on the orientation when I was ready to get all my classes registered, but I didn't know how to register myself. So I waited for my mom to come and help me, and she did. But we didn't realize the time because it was my sister's first day of school and she was waiting for 30 minutes already. So my mom said, "Let's come back tomorrow." So the next when I came back I lost all my classes because they were closed. So on the first day of school that's why it was pretty rough for me because I didn't set my schedule straight. So let this be a lesson to one and all, if you have something important to do, don't put it off, do it right there when have the first and last chance.

The 2nd Day of Class

When I think of the second day of class, I think about how adorable your son was. As hard as you tried to teach Dr. Rivera, you knew he wouldn't quit. He just wanted to draw a picture of himself everywhere. ;) There's not that much to say though.. All we did was go over pretty much definitions like summary, reaction, etc. Also parts of outlining. Other than your son being so adorable, I enjoyed getting out early. See you next class :)

"College, what are you gonna do?"

Class was so fun, I wish it was longer. Even though we were only in there for about 10 to 15 minutes, I feel like our class is a family. Since we are a family, I think we should all share books so no one gets in trouble on Wednesday. We could also have study sessions at each others' houses. I'm thinking the first study party should be at Dr. Rivera's house! ;)

Class ended early on 08/23/10

Yesterday we had an unexpected visitor in the class, Dr. Rivera's son. He was very cute and adorable. He couldn't keep still and was always writing on the board. But he is a child and we can't blame him for acting like a kid! We all remember how we were when we were little. Anyways, class started off at 4:00 with a discussion. Dr. Rivera was explaining how to write/compose an essay. However, her son kept disrupting the class. He was writing on the board and it was especially funny when he tried to write with markers on the chalk board. Well we were in about 10-15 minutes in class but had so many disruptions from the little one, so Dr. Rivera ended class early. She went over Exercise 1 and told us to do it for homework and to also have our books by Wednesday or she'll be taking off points. By 4:15 we were out of class!

Exercise 1

In exercise 1, I first learned about using short lines and paragraphs because it's much more easier to read 50 to 60 characters than 80 from most common editors. Also other things I learned is there's a type of shouting in reading, I learned that you only use it to emphasize a certain italicized text (Ex: book titles) and it's much harder to read too, if you do so it will sound rude to reader and it loses their attention. And I also learned that when common computer users type they often make mistakes, and it looks really bad especially if it's an assignment, so to prevent this, we should proofread our work before turning it in, because if you don't take the time to do it right, it shows a bad impression of the sender. And lastly I learned to make sure people recognize your work because if you don't take credit for your hard work someone else will. So in conclusion, I learned about how to write short lines and paragraphs, also how should you write your work, and to always proofread your work before turning it in.

Our Newest Member!

Even though English is not my best subject, I now have a reason to start liking it. Today in class, Dr. Rivera brought her little son in today. Then a few minutes later, class gets disrupted from the little guy's passion to make his mommy mad. I'm sure we all make our parents mad at some point. For now, the little was the funniest thing ever, especially when he tried to draw with markers on a chalkboard. Then i guess Dr. Rivera wanted to cut it short due to the many distractions in class.
Today's class was interesting, I didn't know we were going to have a special guest. He was so cute! Although we were distracted, we were trying to have a discussion on how to compose an essay and what was essential. We also discussed our homeowork and how we should have our books by next class, or else. This time I will not leave my book in my car. It was nice being dismissed early because we were not allowed to do that in high school and it was a nice college experience. It was good because I had a chance to help my friend get her books and make sure she had everything she needed.

Early Dismissal

Today's English class was my first experience of being in college. I say that because usually you would have to wait until your assigned class is over but in college you're dismissed whenever the teacher says you are. I got to class a little early and waited for Dr. Rivera to arrive. While waiting, I looked around to see the new faces I hope to learn more about. When Dr. Rivera arrived, we got straight to business and took notes on how to compose a good essay. We refreshed our memories of what we were taught in High School like making sure your essay consisted of the three main parts: an introduction, body, and conclusion. The class was eventually cut short and we were dismissed still having an hour left to spare.

Fastest class ever!

What happened today was unexpected. I came to class ready to do some work, but we ended quite early. I still do not have my book, sigh. It was a good thing my seat mate was willing to share his with me. With my spare time, I got to talk and get to know a few more of my classmates. I still have a lot more people to cover, so I look forward to getting to know the rest of you!

I was literally in class for 10 mintues!

Today, I walked into class a little late. I took my seat and started taking notes. We learned the basics today, nothing too different from what we would learn in our high school Senior Composition class. We basically learned the structure of a good essay. The introduction, body, and conclusion. We also learned how to brainstorm and outline before writing our essay. Lastly, we learned that our essay is supposed to prove our thesis statement.

My New Friend

Today I made a new friend. He is a little boy, who followed Dr. Rivera to class. As Dr. Rivera was trying to teach her lesson, this little boy just couldn't keep still. He made everyone laugh with his comments and actions. It seemed that Dr. Rivera's mind was completely off the lesson and she decided to cut class very short. I thank you little boy. Because of you I was able to get home earlier and sleep.

Early Dismissal

First of all, class was so funny today. Everyone was relaxed, just the way I like it. Anyways, Mrs. Rivera brought her little boy to class and apparently he thinks the white board markers go well with the chalk boards. He is a little cutie! Well, in class we were discussing the book. I wasnt aware that we could get the 10th edition instead of the 11th, but its okay. We took down notes and we were assigned homework (for those who had their books). Mrs. Rivera decided to end class early because some didnt have their books in class and left it in their cars. Hopefully, everything will be ready by Wednesday!

Class Cut Short

Todays class was pretty cool because we got dismissed early. We barely got to do anything today, but take very little notes. I can't wait to have our class in the computer lab and even online.

Big time distraction

I don't mean to offend, but you've got to admit today's class was a bit distracting. I understand the situation, but its just hard to concentrate with someone else talking. It was a good idea to have ended class earlier. At least we had extra time in our hands to get everything situated with our books and all. I think we all needed that. It's kind of hard getting into school mode again after thinking you were through with it. We were all pushing senior year just get out and right back into more head aches and hair pulling fun. Like my classmate once said "College, what're you going to do about it?"

1st day of class

First day of class I was a little lost. I had a little trouble finding the class, considering I don't know where certain buildings are located. I eventually found my place and met my new teacher Ms. Rivera. She seems very kind and understanding. I'm looking forward to our upcoming class sessions. Hopefully I wont be as lost.

Class Got Out Early

Today was pretty cool. The weather was perfect, no hot sun and no rain. Then when i stepped into class it wasn't awkward like the first day. Everyone knew what to do and no one seemed nervous or anything. Then the best part, class got out early! Everyone just has to bring their textbooks by wednesday so we can do whatever is planned. Can't wait for Wednesday.

first day of school!

On the first day of school, we met our EN 100 professor todayand i thought she was really nice. On my way to class, i found myself lost because when i went to the room assigned to me, there was already a full classroom and a teacher. I thought that the class before mine was taking really long but those people in our classroom was my classmates and teacher. When me and my friends outside got settled in, we continued where they left off which was introducing each other. When my turn came around I stood up said my name, my age, the highschool i graduated from and the my goals for college. After everyone had their turn of introducing, we then had a diagnostic test to see if we need to be in this class. In my eyes, i thought the test was easy i just consists of an essay we needed to write. I probably thought it was so easy because in my junior year of high school i took a journalism course which helped me with my writing skills and speed. By the time i graduate, i should be able to write a one page essay no problem.

Hello

Good evening classmates, I just want to say good evening everyone and have a wonderful weekend. My place is very muddy because of the rain, and that is not a sign of a good weekend for me. I want to drive somewhere but I am worried about my tires and outside my house. My family stays home for the weekend, only that my husband and I have to go to work but after work we stayed home. The kids want to go out but even them, they don't enjoy the weather.

My First Day in EN100

On my first day of class, I was pretty nervous. I did not know who my class mates were, what my teacher would be like, or if I was even in the correct room. Luckily, I met someone who was in a previous class of mine, and to my relief, I found that I was in the right place. So then, I waited for the class to begin.
Like any other first day of class the teacher introduced herself. Then, each of us proceeded to introduce ourselves. I watched as each student got up and said their name and anything else that came to mind. I knew that there was no way I would remember every single person's name on our first day of class, but this was the first day, and there are many more days of classes that can be used to learn everyone's name.

First Day in my EN 100 Class

My first day in class was actually pretty fun. I knew a lot of my classmates which made me feel more comfortable. I thought it would be awkward and all, starting off as freshman in college but it wasn't. It was just like any other regular day in high school, but it's kind of like we have more freedom in college. My EN 100 class was my last class of the day so I was kind of tired but I love the class.

We started class off by introducing ourselves and we had to tell everyone something interesting. Then the syllabus was passed out. We read through it and Dr. Rivera explained it more, telling us what to expect for the class. After the syllabus, we had to write an essay and were given two topics to choose from. When we were done with the essay, Dr. Rivera allowed us to leave class early.

My first day

My first day in class was quite interesting. Well, of course like any other first day, we all had to introduce ourselves. I guess you can say I was pretty nervous. I'm not that good at public speaking, but I'm looking forward to improving that. I already knew a couple of people in my class but once I had the chance to meet the rest of my classmates, I felt more comfortable. I'm glad that we can meet online sometimes. It makes my schedule less hectic, so thank you. After introducing ourselves, we went over the syllabus. Dr. River explained it a bit more so we could all understand. Then, we had to choose one of the two topics on the board. Once we were done, we were allowed to leave.

yesterdays class was very interesting and provided motivation to excel in the course. i enjoy how well the syllabus was prepared because it shows how hard i must strive to finish the course with a good grade. i am very excited be be in Dr.Matilda Naputi Riveras class.

My First Day

As an incoming freshman, my first day was quite different. Being unfamiliar with the campus, I didn't know where the English building was but luckily my friend was already there to guide me to the correct building. I was nervous at first but as I looked around the room, I realized that everyone else is a freshman too and feeling the same anxiety I was feeling. For this semester, I look forward to improve my writing skills and learn more about my classmates.
The first day of class was like any other first day. We had to introduce ourselves, and go over the syllabus. We also wrote an essay where we had to choose one topic that you wrote on the board. And class was pretty much done after that. I think that it's pretty cool that we meet online for classes some days, and I look forward to the next day of class.

My First Day in EN100

I was really surprised to see that one of my favorite teachers was now my english teacher for college. Wow, twelve years have gone by so fast and I can remember nap time in Mrs. Rivera's class. I am glad to know that I have a class with some of my friends and hopefully I can make new ones! I am looking foward to this semester and hoping to make it to the next level.

was this an assignement?!

Hello there, Dr. Rivera. Was this "First Day of Class" thing everyone is writing about an assignement? If so, I apologize for this being late.

I'm driving to school. It's around 8:30 A.M. and I'm passing the Piti Powerplant. Suddenly, I realize I'm in Mangiloa and I'm almost to school. I find parking far from where my first class was because it was the only one that was available. I tidy myself up, fix anything that might look wrong on me, and I don't leave the truck. I froze in my seat, scared out of my mind. It never really hit me that it was my first day of college until that moment. I then saw my best friend pull up and I wasn't so scared anymore. I stepped out of my car, locked it, and followed my friend to our first class. The class starts. I'm expecting a first day assignement, but instead, a joke, which made everyone laugh. As the class ended, I realized there was nothing to be scared of. College is just another high school. Of course harder and more expensive, but school nonetheless. I went on to my second class, it was nice. I then had a nice four hour gap between my next class, so I went home. I get to my third class of the day around 3:45 and met one of the cutest and most sweet instructors in the world. That class ended and I went home, again. I couldn't wait for the next day.

First day of class

Hi Dr. Rivera and hello to all my classmates, well I am so excited to come back to school after a while, I hope everythings ok with me this semester. And I wish I can pass this course and move on to the next level.

MY FIRST DAY!

Like the other students, I also had a hard time finding my classes. And I forced myself to ask from strangers, and that is such an embarrassing idea for me. But, who cares? I'm new to the school, and i have no idea where the rooms are. Until when i found my English class, and I was happy I am safe.

One thing I like the most is that, one of my classmate now, was my former classmate before at my high school. And I'm glad, I am not alone because she's there, and we know each other, but not really quite that well. I also like the atmosphere having classmates that are fun to associate with. That made me remember my high school days, that i missed so much!

That's all for today, and I am going to post more blog later! Have a nice day!

First Day

Aside from me thinking I was in the wrong class because I was a little late, it went by well. Typical first day: Go over the syllabus then there was Moodle and this blogspot. Apparently, we have a comedian in the class which was entertaining. There were new faces and ones I've seen many times before. I can't judge a class by the first day so I hope we enjoy the rest of the semester.

August 18 reflection

I thought class today was very smooth and easy going. I saw many new faces and a few familiar ones too. I look forward to meeting you all this fall semester! I hope we can all be great friends:)
